History
The Brandon Garden Club began as the Brandon & Western Forestry &
Horticultural Society on March 1, 1893. The founding members were
influential in Brandon including; the Senator of Canada for the Province of
Manitoba, a lawyer, a grocer, a farmer, the founder of Patmore Nursery,
among others.
Many of the founding members had their hand in creating Rideau Park,
Assiniboine Park, the first exhibition of flowers and vegetables in Brandon,
home grounds competition, the first Junior Garden Club for the province,
among other accomplishments.
In 1957 the Ladies Auxiliary was amalgamated with the Brandon
Horticultural Society.
In 2000 the Brandon Horticultural Society officially changed its name to
The Brandon Garden Club.
The Brandon Garden Club has always aimed to promote horticulture to amateur and seasoned gardeners a like while beautifying the City of Brandon.
Our slogan Plant a Seed & Watch it Grow not only applies to the actual practice of gardening but to individuals who just need a seed of knowledge to get them into gardening.
The Brandon Garden Club is a member of the Manitoba Horticultural Association (MHA).
